Sshrishti launched Internet Saathi, its largest and most ambitious project in February 2018 in Uttarakhand. With project support of FREND (Google and Tata Trusts) Sshrishti has successfully run the project in 8 districts of Uttarakhand achieving 10 lakhs target women beneficiaries, bringing them the knowledge of the Internet and making them digitally literate.
Sshrishti implemented the project as a pilot phase in 3 districts of Almora, Nainital and Bageshwar and in the second phase implemented it in Champawat, Dehradun, Haridwar, Udham Singh Nagar and Uttar Kashi districts. In two phases 1775 women were trained as Saathis (companions) to use the smartphone to access the Internet. Each of them was mandated to teach 600 more women in remote villages of Uttarakhand, through the use of smartphones.
The women beneficiaries have been taught to surf the net and its vast storehouse of information, to access resources like Google, You Tube etc. and learn skills that match their interest. Many women are already using their new-found knowledge to start small businesses and enhancing their livelihood options.
Currently Sshrishti has taken forward the Internet Saathi project to 4 districts of Punjab viz. Gurdaspur, Ludhiana, Pathankot and Sangrur and reaching out to 4 lakhs target women beneficiaries.
Sshrishti is also focusing on providing newer opportunities of livelihood for the 1775 Saathis in Uttarakhand, utilizing their honed communication skills and familiarity with the Internet and their ability to offer training and marketing.
